Michelle Lucero, 3rd Grade Teacher
August 28, 2014

Dear Parent or Guardian,
Hi! Welcome to third grade! My name is Michelle Lucero and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I look forward to an exciting year of teaching and a great year of learning. I am interested in making this a successful and happy year for you and your child. Third grade is an exciting learning year. This year we will be spending a lot of time on reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Below you will find information regarding classroom and school behavior expectations, as well as, homework policies and class recognitions.

Class Expectations!
1. We will follow directions quickly and quietly.
2. We will raise our hands and wait to be called on.
3. We will respect everyone, at all times.
4. We will not interrupt the teacher or other classmates when they are talking.
5. We will keep our hands and feet to ourselves.
Behavior:
All Students will start on Green, each day. The colors and meanings are as follows:
Gold: Shining Star Silver: Outstanding Purple: Great Job Blue: Good Day Green: Ready To Learn Yellow: Think About It Orange: Teacher’s Choice Red: Parent Contact
You will be informed of your child’s behavior on a daily basis by way of the homework planner.

Restroom:
Students may go to the restroom once in the morning and once in the afternoon, unless it is an emergency. They must ask to go to the restroom, and only one boy and one girl may go at a time.

Drinks:
Students may have bottled water at their desks.
School Expectations:
Pride
Accountability
Respect
Kindness

Homework:
Homework is given on a daily basis. However, sometimes students may not
receive homework on Fridays. Homework is to be completed and returned the
following day. Each night students are expected to practice their multiplication
facts, read for at least twenty-five minutes and fill out their planner. The planner
does include a parent signature. Sometimes students will also receive homework
from one of the following: math, vocabulary, writing, etc. Also, students that do
not finish class work may bring those assignments home, as well. Please have
your students utilize Sumdog and IXL. As a whole, homework should take no
longer than 40-45 minutes. Homework will be checked daily. After twenty days
of homework completion students may choose a prize from the “prize box”.

AR:
Every student should have two AR books at a time. One chapter book and one
picture book. The books that they check out are at their individual reading levels.
Your child should be reading every night, a minimum of 25 minutes. I have
explained to the class, and want you to know also that they should be reading and
testing on at least 2 books per week. I need your help to follow through with their
reading at home. Students will have an AR goal to reach for each quarter. To
reach their goal they must meet their point goal and have an average of 85% or
higher.

Multiplications Facts:
Each student will master their multiplication facts 0-12 in the third grade. Please
help your student practice their facts each night.

Birthday Celebrations:
Birthdays are celebrated the last twenty minutes of the day. If you choose to
bring in treats, please ensure that they are store bought. Please notify the teacher
ahead of time and we will let you know if there are any food allergies.
The third grade expectations and standards are high, and I have great confidence
in my students. Please help me by supporting and encouraging your children. I
hope this is the beginning of a great school year. I am looking forward to meeting
every one of you and working with you as a team to make this the best school year
possible. If I can be of assistance to you, please let me know. Thank you for your
cooperation.

Thank you,
Michelle Lucero

Calling All Yearling

Calling All Yearling

Hey Sunset Park Community!!! They staff at Sunset Park hopes you all had a fun and safe summer! Now it is time to welcome you back and get the ball rolling! We would like to invite all of our 2014-15 Yearlings to Open House on Thursday, August 28th from 5:30-7:00. We are making this change from our past practice based on the feedback we received from the surveys distributed last year. The format has changed as well. This year parents and students can come into their new classrooms, meet their new teachers, get settled in their new desks and even take care of their classroom supplies. For those of you that ordered supplies last spring the orders are in and will be waiting for you on your desk. We will also have numerous community agencies available to meet with in the cafeteria for any interested families. Finally, no large group meeting in the gym to suffer through in the late summer heat;)

Remember to complete your paperwork before you leave and you will have one less thing to worry about once school begins:) Please feel free to call us at 549-7610 if you have any questions.

See you on Thursday the 28th,

Mrs.Lucero
